Healthy Habits for Halloween
It can be difficult to stick to a healthy diet during the Halloween season.๐ป๐ Check out these strategies you can use to make it easier:
Wait to Buy Candy - Keeping halloween candy and other sweets out of your house will reduce temptations. Instead, stock up on healthier snacks like nuts, veggies, eggs, greek yogurt, and fruit. That way, if youโre craving something sweet, you have other options available. Wait until the last minute to buy halloween candy, ansd keep it out of sight once in the house.
Stay Active - Make it a priority to get daily activity. Choose things you enjoy--walking, yoga, pilates, tennis, dancing, weight lifting, etc. Limit intense exercise, which can increase hunger hormones.
Donโt Skip Meals - On halloween, stick to your normal meal times and prioritize protein at meals and snacks. Add volume to your protein with non-starchy vegetables and healthy carbs. This will help you avoid overeating candy later in the evening.
Remember the Three Bite Rule - If you make a mindful decision to indulge, stick to 3 bites of your favorite candies, eat them slowly, enjoy the flavors, and then move on. Remember, the first three bites are always the best anyway.
Get Back to Your Routine - After halloween, get back to your normal routine. Donโt skip meals to compensate for candy you may have eaten the night before. Donate or dispose of leftover candy to get it out of the house.
Happy Halloween - Focus on the fun experiences the holiday brings--not the food.
